Always a literalist, Tina Horn has taken the act of making a name for herself to absurd lengths. As a porn performer and practitioner of professional BDSM for over two years, she goes by Christina Mabry Horn, and you can call her Tina if you’re lucky. Her paintings, comic art and courtroom illustrations are in collections across the United States.  She lives in Berkeley with a large manatee-like cat.

Artist Malia Schlaefer has been reaching out to the community making women’s sexual fantasies become a reality as she documents them in her photographs; illuminating what contemporary female desire looks like. Karen Marisa beautifully photographed Vixen Noir’s twist on a typical fairy- tale, creating a Queer African-American ‘Snow Black’ with a delicious sexual appetite. Amandalynn’s artwork challenges the impossible, creating painted portraits of wondrous headless, walking Victorian ladies. Our favorite Italian import from Rome, Nicoz Balboa takes us through her whimsical world of heroic damsels and life size animals with her drawings and pyrography paintings. Join us as they explore the vital theme of fantasy in the developments of desires and sexual identity.

Malia Schlaefer’s professional, artistic and personal interests lie in art, sex, and community. She creates photographs addressing contemporary female sexuality. Malia grew up in the desert in Tucson, Arizona. She attended the University of San Diego, earning her BA in Visual Art, emphasizing in photography and design. She continued her graduate studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. After graduation Malia annually curated and coordinated “The Open Show,” artwork addressing queer identity issues, for USD’s Social Issues Conference. She has shown her work with various galleries in California and Florida. Featured in the SD Weekly, OC Weekly, and has an upcoming expose in WHORE! magazine. Her latest body of work addresses the hot topic of sexual desire, examining people’s sexual fantasies by recreating and photographing them, producing a provocative and titillating series of photographs.

Waking up in a mass of inspirational and talented artists and spaces, Amandalynn realized her calling at a young age. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, she was inspired by several different local artists to expand her talent. Robin Grass, an amazing fantasy painter from that area, was and still is an iconic influence in her art. She moved away from the East and headed West to San Francisco, CA where she attended art school, both from an educational system, but more so from a networking system of creativity that surrounded her. San Francisco has been Amanda’s home base for the past nine years and has connected her to so many different types of art, artists and incredible projects. Amandalynn works by day as a motorcycle and metal sculpture painter and restorator. She crams her fine art career into the hours in between work and very little sleep. Her fine art usually consists of seductive, secretive female imagery that is recognizable by their long ears and sometimes green skin. Amanda also paints her figures on doorways and walls around SF and throughout the country, usually accompanying graffiti mural productions. She also has been commissioned over the years to do several large scale mural projects and gallery shows. Amandalynn lives to create and is constantly striving to make and do more and higher quality work.

Karen Marisa was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Asia and Africa. She has resided in California for over twenty years. Her interests in photography include urban street, portrait, documentary, events, nature, historic, journalistic, and storytelling work.

Vixen Noir aka Veronica C. Combs conceptualized the story of Snow Black and The Seven-Bois Gang for for the 2008 ³The Fairytale² issue (13) of Slit: a dyke trans sex magazine based in Sydney Australia, in which she was also interviewed. Her artistic vision was photographed by Karen Marisa

Nicoz Balboa was born in Rome. She graduated from the I.E.D. (European Institute of Design) of Rome and did a three-month stage at the E.S.A.G. of Paris. In 1996 she started to self-produce her comics with some fanzines called Catholic Girls, Caccapiscia, and several mini-comics called Cuoricini, Pochi Intimi, Axe Rouge, Maison, Adesivi, and Njcoz’s Girls. In 2005, she published her first solo comic-album “Nicozrama” with the Centro Fumetto Andrea Pazienza and in 2008 she published another solo comic book named “Les Larmes the Crocodile” for the French publisher “Diantre!” Her comics, artworks and illustrations have also appeared in magazines such as the French Target Magazine, Rugged, Stripburger, the Spanish Look de Book. She often work for rock bands doing posters ( Unsane, Motorama, the Normals, the Intellectuals, Bloody Hollies, the Smackdown etc…). She participates in lots of collective exhibitions such as “Beautiful Dreamers” at the Angel Art Gallery of Milan, “Don’t Say Motherfucker, Motherfucker” at the MFGallery of New York, “Knock Your Socks Off” at the Head Quarters Gallery of Montreal, the ” Dirty Show” in Detroit, “Immigrant Punk” at Black Maria Gallery of Los Angeles, “Skulls of Rome” in Rome organized by DRAGO editions, “Girls Adventures” at Arkel gallery in Bruxell, “Pop Invaders” and “Money-Lisa” at Mondo POP gallery in Rome. She also did two personal exhibitions in Paris (at the Toast Gallery and at the Tribal Act Gallery). She released a two minute cartoon “les religions sauvages” with the French group Le dernier Cri. She’s currently working on a kid’s book for the French publisher Diantre. She has lived in France since 2001 where she runs the True Hate Art Gallery.

Femina Potens is holding a call for artist submissions for our annual visual art exhibition ‘Bust ED’.  This show honors breast cancer awareness month addressing breast health. ‘Bust ED’ celebrates the lovely and erotic nature of the bosom, while reminding everyone of the way breast cancer affects our lives.

This October 2009, Femina Potens will be hosting the second annual ‘Bust ED II’.  We are asking for submissions from artists to take part in this powerful show.  If you have  artwork or a project proposal inspired by the breast please contact us.

Lorelei Lee is a student, writer, and porn performer. She has appeared in over 200 BDSM, queer, and mainstream adult films. Andrea Maybelline Danger (Annie) is a 26-year-old, born-and-raised, New Mexican shemale. That’s right, kiddos. Sadie Lune is a pleasure activist, bizarre and erotic absurdist, and multi-media artist based in San Francisco, whose work focuses on sexuality and gender in performance and visual genres. Sadie has been a sex worker of varied specialty for ten years and has presented and facilitated sex-positive workshops for the past seven years. She has volunteered at the Center for Sex and Culture and the St. James Infirmary (an occupational health and safety clinic for sex workers and their partners) and worked with SWOP-USA. She has written and produced original work for performance in Montreal, Toronto, New York and San Francisco, and graduated from the Experimental Performance Institute at New College of California for Social Change in 2006. In 2007 she toured the United States extensively on the Sister Spit: Next Generation Tour, in promotion of the anthologyBaby Remember My Name edited by Michelle Tea, Carroll & Graf. She is invested in the relationship of storytelling as a historical method of moving experiential knowledge into means of inspiring social justice. She tends to favor the underdog.

Stand Up For Queer Visibility In the Media, Call to Action TONIGHT!

Fighting for Queer Representation in the media!

For the past month HBO has been filming Madison Young and Femina Potens for an episode of Real Sex.  This has entailed scenes from Madison Young’s Production company ‘Madison Young Productions’ as well as at her feminist, queer Art Gallery Femina Potens.

After filming Madison feels as though her and her queer, sex-positive community were  left feeling exploited and disempowered by a main stream entity.  HBO has decided against queer visibility in their Real Sex program. Fighting discrimination and exclusion is fundamental to what Madison’s work and art represents.

We can’t hide. And we can’t be exploited. So we must stand up for who we are and what we believe in.  Tonight at 6:30 pm HBO will be filming a reception at the gallery. Please join us. We want to hear from our community. This gallery is your space. It is our space. It is an honest reflection of who we are uncensored. I encourage you all to make your voices heard. Organize protests outside the gallery, crash the party, show up and be yourself, bring signs, wear buttons. Let’s create queer viability in the media!  And use this situation as a catalyst for dialogue and action about queer main stream representation.

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - JUNE 4, 2009 - “Open Eyes, Queer Film Night” takes place the first Friday of each month at the Femina Potens Art Gallery.  Open Eyes features local artist’s provocative, critical, and engaging films. They Bay Area has been growing some of the finest queer pornographers the country has to offer. This June join our pornographic revolution. We will feature three scenes from hot and steamy new queer films. Featuring a preview of Madison Young’s Lesbian Life Real Sex NYC. Pink & White’s ‘Champion - from the makers of the The Crash Pad Series takes you through rounds of sexy romps in the ring with Syd Blakovich, Madison Young, Trouble Royale, and Dallas.
